Three tribals electrocuted in field

Sangareddy: Three tribals lost their lives when the pipe they are working with accidentally touched a high-tension wire in Jitran tanda of Gollapalli village in Chegunta mandal on Thursday. G. Mohan Reddy, SDPO of Toopran, said Gugulotu Mangya, K. Laxman and K. Tulsi Ram died on the spot and Srinivas was severely injured in the incident. The four persons were working in the Mangya's field and trying to replace damaged water pipes. - Staff Reporter

Maoists damage Government building

WARANGAL: Suspected Maoists damaged a Government building at Eturunagaram agency mandal late on Wednesday night. A group of naxalites reached the Panchayat Raj Divisional Engineer office located at the mandal headquarters and pitched a bomb to the grills before detonating it. The office building was partially damaged. The police suspect that it could be aimed at ambushing the police party. In the afternoon, the police visited the site. - Staff Reporter

Fisherman drowned

in Para Kalava

Kakinada: Malladi Sriramulu (50), a fisherman of S. Yanam village, went into Para Kalava near the sea mouth for fishing and slipped from the catamaran and drowned late on Wednesday evening. His body was retrieved on Thursday morning. - Correspondent

Undertrial escapes

from sub-jail

KHAMMAM: An undertrial escaped from the sub-jail here hoodwinking two guards who brought him from the district court on Wednesday. Kusam Nagaraju, an accused in the murder case of his wife, managed to escape from the main gate of the jail. He belonged to Pachirajugudem village in Gundala mandal. TRS, Congress workers clash

Sangareddy: TRS activists and Congress workers clashed in front of Siddipet MP Sarve Satyanarayana and T. Harish Rao, MLA, in Imambad of Siddipet on Thursday. Over a hundred workers engaged in pitched battle over the absence of TRS paraphernalia at the foundation ceremony of a housing project under Indiramma programme. According to sources, Mr. Rao was invited by the MP to attend the programme. TRS activists demanded that their party flags be hoisted near the venue and a wordy duel ensued. The police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the workers. - Staff Reporter

Appellate Authority designated

HYDERABAD: K. Tuljanand Singh, Secretary, State Legislature, N. Anjaiah, Deputy Secretary, and K. Tulasi Ram, Assistant Secretary, Legislature Secretariat, have been designated Appellate Authority, State Public Information Officer and Assistant Public Information Officers respectively.

Kakinada: Two miscreants attacked Armed Reserve police constable A. Subbarao of the District Police Office and snatched Rs.1.30 lakhs from him near Kondaiahpalem railway gate on Wednesday. The constable had taken the cash from the bank towards payment of wages . - Correspondent

NTPC conducts veterinary camps

KARIMNAGAR: The National Thermal Power Corporation, Ramagundam, in collaboration with the district Animal Husbandry Department conducted veterinary camps in Laxmipur and Lingapur of Ramagundam mandal on Tuesday and Wednesday. KADAPA: Two persons of Koilkuntla -- Subhash Chandra Bose and his friend Balasubbanna - died when their motorcycle was hit by a tractor near Pennanagar on Proddatur bypass road on Wednesday night. In another accident, a motorcyclist Balaji was killed when he rammed into a bullock cart near Nallaguttapalle village in Ramapuram mandal. - Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: The Emergency Management and Research Institute will open its services in the district from April 1, according to the institute representative, Raj Kumar. Collector, D.V. Raidu will inaugurate the services at Pragati Bhavan here. The institute will provide ambulance service if a call is made to Telephone No. 108 and Satyam Computers is providing the ambulance. Police, Medical and Health and Fire departments will support in the delivery of this service. This service was opened in 10 districts so far and some 2,576 doctors have been extending their assistance. - Staff Reporter

ATM inaugurated

KARIMNAGAR: Collector C. Parthasarathi has inaugurated the sixth ATM centre of the Andhra Bank at the Kaman crossroads area in Karimnagar town on Thursday. The Andhra Bank had also proposed to open another ATM centre at Doctor's street in Karimnagar to cater to the growing demand of its customers. The AB deputy general manager, G.D.V. Prasada Rao said that bus stand ATM centre had attained a distinction with high usage by the customers. Cash awards for

work inspectors

NIZAMABAD: Work Inspectors of the Andhra Pradesh Housing Corporation will be presented cash awards if they complete the construction of model colonies by June, district Collector D.V. Raidu has said.

A committee comprising department officers will select the best work inspectors on the basis of their performance. The best inspector will get Rs.5,000 and the second best Rs.3,000.

Under the third prize Rs.2,000 will be given away, the Collector said in a press release here on Thursday.
