MAHABUBNAGAR: To eliminate child labour in Mahabubnagar district a new project would be implemented through International labour organisation(ILO)in collaboration with Government of Andhra Pradesh, according to Harvey Berger,the senior specialist in child labour of ILO project. Speaking to media persons at the Andhra Pradesh social welfare residential school for girls at Chitteboinpally village in Jadcharla mandal on Wednesday, Mr.Berger informed that the project would also be implemented in Kurnool and Hyderabad districts. He said all necessary steps would be taken to improve the income of families of child labour. Mr. Berger opined that with the help of Labour and Education Departments, child labour system can be eliminated. Support would be given to identify the child labour and their enrolment into schools besides training would be imparted in various sectors to the children of above 14 years to enable them to take up self employment schemes. Mr. Berger who interacted with the students enquired about their studies, facilities provided, habits, and future plans. He also interacted with the members of Self-help groups about their efforts in eliminating child labour in the district. Later, he visited primary school at Nagasala village and tribal welfare hostel for boys at Jadcharla town. State project manager, ILO, Rani Kumudini and district Collector M. Jagadeeshwar and other districts officials were also present.
