Villagers allege that the resort has come up illegally on forest land

MYSORE: People of Gendathur village in H.D. Kote taluk have urged the Government to close down a private resort in the N. Begur Range of the Bandipur National Park, claiming that it has been set up illegally on the forest land.

A group of villagers and president of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Pragatipara Okkuta H.C. Narasimhamurthy have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to initiate action against the owners of the resort for not taking permission from the gram panchayat as specified by the law.

Blocked

They told presspersons here that the approach route of the local people to the forest has been blocked.

They contended that the authorities have erred in permitting private resorts in forests and wildlife sanctuaries and said they disturb the habitat and wildlife.

Mr. Narasimhamurthy said they have urged the Ministry of Environment and Forests to resolve the issue.
