No notification yet on Dandi March route, says Gujarat
Special Correspondent
GANDHINAGAR:
Even though the Centre declared the Dandi March route a "heritage route" last year, it is yet to allocate any funds or even issue a notification, according to the Gujarat Roads and Building Minister, I.K. Jadeja. United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced the Centre's intention to declare the about 400 km route from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to Dandi village a "heritage route."
The announcement was made on April 6 last at the concluding ceremony of the re-enactment of the march organised by the All-India Congress Committee to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the historic march. About a fortnight ago, the Pradesh Congress spokesman claimed that the Centre had given the final stamp of approval. Mr. Jadeja, however, told the Assembly that the State Government had sent a Rs. 344 crore proposal to the Union Surface Transport Ministry.
