CCS clears Dhruv acquisition
New Delhi:
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Thursday approved the procurement of 20 indigenously-built Dhruv advanced light helicopters (ALH) for the Army and seven radars for the Air Force.
The CCS also approved the Defence Cooperation Agreement signed by India and France recently, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters after the hour-long meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The meeting also decided to extend the Security-Related Expenditure scheme to fight naxalism for another five years, a move that will benefit 76 districts across nine States.
The Dhruv helicopters will be procured by the Army at a cost of Rs. 955 crore.
The ALH, being built at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, have been grounded for detailed examination after one of them crashed near Hyderabad recently. PTI
