TAFE attracts more students

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Enrolment of Indian students, a substantial portion from Bangalore, in Austrialia's TAFE (Technical and Further Education) more than doubled from 1,598 in 2004 to 3,876 last year. During the same period, students enrolling for Bachelor and Masters degree programmes grew from 17,853 to 22,270. Business, information technology, engineering and science were the popular disciplines of study, according to latest statistics.

Kaushal Jhaveri from TAFE, Western Australia, will be in city on Friday to interview prospective students and confirm admission. For more information and registration, contact IDP Bangalore on ph: 41233751/52/53/54/55/56 or email kaushal.jhaveri @challengertafe.wa.edu.au

Minimum entry criteria for a certificate course in TAFE is completion of Standard XI, whereas for diploma, a first class in Standard XII is essential. An overall IELTS score of 5.5 is mandatory for the student visa. TAFE courses are less expensive than university courses, and in many cases, TAFE graduates are admitted directly into the second year of their chosen bachelor degree programme.
