Sandhya Kirana completes two years

BANGALORE: Sandhya Kirana, the first day care facility set up by Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) and Nightingales Medical Trust, is celebrating its second annual day on April 1.

The centre is the first project of the various welfare measures envisaged in the State Policy on Older Persons, announced by the State Government.

The centre was founded with the aim of providing low-income senior citizens a place where they can spend their daytime with a range of services and facilities to fulfil their social, physical, financial and emotional needs. The centre provides health care, midday meals, recreation, fitness, outings and income generation schemes. Every day, about 40 elders visit the centre and make use of the services.

On its second anniversary, the centre will have its members display their skills and talents through a variety entertainment programme including dance, skits, mono acting, songs and mimicry.

Also on the agenda is an exhibition of paintings, greeting cards and dolls made by the elders.

The day will also feature a free medical camp for elders between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Eminent doctors in different faculties from the M.S. Ramaiah Medical Teaching hospital will offer their services and medicines. For details, 51248448.
