NEW DELHI: Construction of entry gates at all entry points to the New Delhi Municipal Council area, redevelopment of Connaught Place, construction of multi-level parking, development of a dynamic web portal enabling citizens to download all the forms for utility services and global information system (GIS) mapping of all services are some of the key areas on which NDMC would focus on in 2006-07. The NDMC budget presented on Thursday has also earmarked Rs 30.45 crores for upgradation of Talkatora and Shivaji Stadiums to international standards for the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Presenting the Council's budget for the year 2006-07, Chairperson Sindhushree Khullar said the Organising Committee of CWG 2010 has also finalised Talkatora Indoor Stadium for the boxing event. Stating that NDMC was in the process of finalising a consultant for the project, she said the work is likely to start in the coming financial year subject to clearance from the infrastructure coordination committee of CWG and the Delhi Urban Arts Commission. And this would be completed in 2008-09.
Expenditure
The Chairperson said in the budget a surplus of Rs 2.72 crores is expected in the coming year with receipts of Rs 1,063.16 crores as against an expenditure of Rs 1060.44 crores. In 2005-06, she said, a surplus of Rs 3.21 crores is expected. Stating that the past year has been spent on meeting daily challenges of house-keeping for making New Delhi a "world class city'', she said for making the Capital the cynosure of all eyes, a redevelopment plan for Connaught Place has been initiated for restoration of the area as heritage city and M/s Engineer India limited has been engaged for the purpose. Simultaneously, improvement work of Central Vista, including Rajpath and restoration of Gole Market heritage area would be undertaken and architects appointed for the purpose have submitted their reports. On water management, NDMC said a techno-commercial study was conducted to focus on identifying the leakages leading to the loss of water in the distribution network.
Rainwater
Also, while rainwater harvesting works have been completed at 17 locations, mostly in Palika schools, 85 other sites have been proposed. With distribution losses in NDMC area being low at 14 per cent, Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has also for the first time given a tariff order in respect of its area on the basis of aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) filed by the Council.
