NEW DELHI: Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah on Thursday said he had asked various Ministries to put all types of information about their departments in their respective website with the aim to make it easier for citizens to find out routine information. Speaking at a discussion on "The Right to Information: Six Months After" at India International Centre here, Mr. Habibullah said by putting information on their websites the ministries will only ease their own work. Moreover, digitalising their records will be beneficial to them. "The Right to Information Act was an act all Indians should be justifiably proud. In the United Kingdom my counterpart had received criticism and was even accused of being frightfully slow. Our act is potentially stronger and we seek to promote transparency in the working of every Government department," he added. On the occasion, 2005 Chameli Devi Jain Award for outstanding women mediaperson was conferred on Ratna Bharali Talukdar, a freelance journalist of Guwahati, by social activist Aruna Roy.
