Bid to decongest traffic in the Capital

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday gave its nod for setting up of an Institute of Indian System of Medicine at Dabur Khera in Najafgarh at an estimated cost of Rs.103 crore. It also cleared release of Rs.247 crore and another instalment of Rs.140 crore for speeding up work on the Eastern and Western peripheral expressways around Delhi

These decisions were taken at the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. A presentation on good administrative practices was also made to the Cabinet.

Talking to newsmen Ms. Dikshit said her Government was committed to commissioning of Eastern and Western peripheral expressways as this would lead to traffic decongestion in the city. Approval was accorded for Rs.147.10 crore released in 2004-2005 and Rs.100 crore released in 2005-2006. An amount of Rs. 140 crore would be released in current financial year.

This would help in speedy implementation of the project. As per the decision of the Apex Court, Delhi has to bear 50 per cent cost of Rs. 844 crore project, the rest being shared by Haryana and Uttar Pradesh equally.
