VIJAYAWADA: Finding a job abroad seems to be easier than getting a job in your city now. Approaching a private consultancy and paying a huge amount for securing work permit is history as far as job seekers from Andhra Pradesh are concerned. Thanks to the launch of Overseas Manpower Company Andhra Pradesh Limited (OMCAP), a consultancy which aims at providing career guidance to unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled professionals and assist them find a job abroad, the long-cherished mission of many can be easily transformed into reality now. Keeping the large-scale migration of labourers from the State to various foreign countries, the State Government has launched the OMCAP to bring overseas employers and aspiring youth closer by eliminating the role of private placement agencies. The consultancy identifies overseas job opportunities and assists the aspirants by coordinating passports, visas and air ticket. It also organises occupational competency certificates of international standards and helps the aspirants improve their professional skills by providing training in communication skills and personality development. "Whether skilled or unskilled, labourers from the State are always in great demand within the country and overseas as well. It is because of their skills, craftsmanship, expertise and hard work," says A.V. Bhogeswarudu, assistant manager of OMCAP, which has its headquarters at Mallepalli in Hyderabad.
Eligibility
Candidates who seek to register with the consultancy must have at least two years of experience in the relevant area. Fresh candidates are being considered for registration on a condition that they upgrade their skills in their area of work. Interested candidates can get the application forms from the Regional Employment Office on the Government ITI compound in the city by paying Rs. 100. Applicants must enclose a demand draft for Rs. 750, drawn in favour of the Managing Director, OMCAP, along with their application and can send it even by post. "The registration is valid for two years and it can be renewed for Rs. 200. We will computerise the data and give a code number to each applicant," Mr. Bhogeswarudu says. The consultancy secures information pertaining to vacancies in different countries from the respective embassies. Based on the requirements, it calls applicants for interviews.
Workshop
"Plans are afoot to conduct a daylong workshop in the city, where we will conduct an awareness camp and spot registrations," says V. Himabindu, Regional Employment Officer. Right now, the training programmes are being conducted only in Hyderabad.
