Varanasi: plea dismissed

Legal Correspondent

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking directions to the Centre and Uttar Pradesh to ensure the safety of all religious places at and around Varanasi following the March 7 bomb blast in the Sankat Mochan temple there.

The authorities are doing their job, said a Bench consisting of Justices Ruma Pal and Dalveer Bhandari. Mohammed Aslam alias Bhure, who is also one of the petitioners in the Ayodhya dispute case, wanted the court to direct the authorities at Varanasi to regulate the entry of devotees at religious places to ensure that a large number did not assemble nearby.
