NEW DELHI: The Delhi police will take action against those found obstructing the ongoing Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) drive to seal shops operating illegally from residential areas across the Capital. Additional Commissioner of Police (General Administration) Kishan Kumar on Friday said they had received several complaints from the MCD about attempts to tamper with the seals put on illegal shops. "All are advised not to prevent the MCD officials from carrying out their lawful duties as per the Supreme Court directive. Any attempt to create obstruction or tamper with the seal shall invite legal action," he said. The deputy commissioners of police of all the districts have been asked to furnish details about the violations at the earliest. The sealing process had begun on March 29. While the MCD has alleged that due to lack of force it was unable to carry out the sealing process expeditiously, Police Commissioner K.K. Paul refuted the charge. He said at least one company force had been given to each district, apart from the local strength, for the sole purpose of providing security to the MCD officials. "Also, whenever we receive complaints about any disturbance related to the sealing exercise, we immediately send adequate force to the spot," said Dr. Paul. Senior police officers feel that the MCD officials are not using the force at their disposal judiciously. "Most of the time they are engaged in conducting inspection to identify the properties to be sealed. At the end of the day, they seal just a few shops. They should have finished the inspection procedure earlier, so that in presence of the police force, they could quickly seal all the notified illegal structures," said a senior police officer.
