KOCHI: The wages of the headload workers in Ernakulam district have been revised in response to a charter of demands submitted by the Ernakulam Headload & General Workers Union. Talks were held at the Builders Association Hall at Gandhinagar. There will be 18 per cent rise in wages. The validity of the agreement will be from April 1 this year to March 31, 2008. The wages for handling cement bags will be Rs.4 per bag, including levy. The rate for handling laterite bricks will be 90 paise per brick, including levy. One-and-a-half times the normal wages will have to be paid for work done after 7 p.m. A committee has been set up to resolve disputes during the agreement period, according to a press release.
