VIJAYAWADA: The N.T.R. University of Health Sciences (NTR-UHS) will conduct counselling for admission into Post Graduate medical courses on its campus here from April 3 to 9. It will fill 904 PG seats available in the nine Government colleges and four private medical colleges across the State. Roster system will be followed again with a slight change in order to enable the first ranker to get a seat of his or her choice. As per the Government orders, the university replaced the first point (OC women) with third point (OC general) in the roster. The counselling will be conducted in accordance with GO 74, which relates to the roster system. UHS Registrar P. Jayakar Babu says that the problem of the first ranker not getting a seat will not repeat this year because of the change effected in the roster system. Last year, first ranker Ananta Ram could not get a seat of his choice in the first counselling and it led to a controversy.
Separate rosters
Separate rosters will be followed for three university areas and for State-wide institutions and courses. The quota for in-service candidates in clinical courses is increased from 15 per cent last year to 30 per cent this year. In non-clinical courses, the quota for in-service candidates is increased from 30 per cent to 50 per cent. This is expected to trigger resentment among the student aspirants. Some have filed a writ petition before the High Court and the allotment of seats will be made subject to the outcome of the petition. The present counselling will be conducted based on the PG Medical Entrance Test for 2006-`07 held on February 25. Of 4,349 candidates who appeared for the test, 2193 candidates have qualified. Counselling will be conducted for state-wide seats (Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada and MD radio diagnostics at Osmaia Medical College), Andhra University, Osmania University and Sri Venkateswara University area seats simultaneously. Physically challenged candidates of all areas should report to Medical Board on UHS campus at 8 a.m. on April 3.The board, constituted by the university, will confirm the status of disability as per the guidelines of Medical Council of India. The candidates selected in the counselling will have to report and join the courses on or before April 13 in the respective colleges. Seats available and university-wise roster points will be posted on the university website.
