Banking Secretary elevated as Special Secretary

NEW DELHI: Banking Secretary Vinod Rai on Saturday assumed charge as head of the Financial Sector division in the Finance Ministry following his elevation as Special Secretary.

Until now, Mr. Rai, an IAS officer (Kerala cadre), was Additional Secretary. As he was not of the rank of Secretary so far, the banking division came under the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) that is headed by Ashok Jha.

T. Sankaralingam on Saturday took over as the new Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Limited in place of C.P. Jain. Since 2001, Mr. Sankaralingam has been on the NTPC board as Director (Projects).
