P.V. Parthasarathy
CHENNAI: P.V. Parthasarathy, one of the founders of Kumudam, a popular Tamil magazine, died here on Sunday. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Born in Chennai in May 1925, Mr. Parthasarathy did his post-graduation from the Loyola College and studied law at the Law College. He and his college mate, S.A. P. Annamalai, founded the magazine in 1947. While Annamalai took care of editorial functions, Mr. Parthasarathy was the publisher. Mr. Parthasarathy was responsible for establishing a sound system of publication and distribution of the magazine, enabling it to become a household name. He relinquished his post as publisher of the Kumudam group of publications in 2001. Condoling his death, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa praised Mr. Parthasarathy for his services towards making Kumudam a leading magazine. He managed the affairs of the magazine successfully for about 60 years. He was pious and devoted to his profession. He was known for epoch-making contributions, she said. K.S. Ramakrishnan, former civil servant and a friend of the founders of the magazine, said Mr. Parthasarathy adopted innovative measures to ensure that the magazine became a success. It was through such measures that Kumudam was available in rural areas. He married the requirements of increase in circulation with use of emerging technologies in printing.
