Students apprehensive about re-exam of entrance test

Staff Reporter

Say re-examination will be unfair to those who have fared well in the test

Bangalore: Students of Bangalore Medical College (BMC) who appeared for the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance (AIPGE) examination conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in January this year have expressed apprehension over the conduct of a re-examination, following reports of alleged malpractice in the entrance test.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested some people in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry recently in connection with the malpractice case.

It was found that question papers from the examination hall were taken out of the hall and the answers were sent to the candidates through SMS on their cellphones.

The students BMC have stressed that a re-examination will be unfair to those who have fared well in the test and have been allotted ranks. They also said that since the exams were conducted three months ago and the results have already been announced, it was too late to have a re-exam and conducting the examination again would put unnecessary stress on the candidates.

"Many of us have surrendered our PG medical seats in other institutes because we got a better rank in the AIPGE. Now if there is a re-examination what will we do?" asks Pradeep Kumar, who has secured eighth rank in the AIIMS entrance examination.

The students have urged the Centre to bring to book those doctors who were involved in the malpractice and not to tax those candidates who have nothing to do with the scam.

They have appealed that the counselling for postgraduate seats which was abruptly stopped after the malpractice came to light be resumed, as according to the Medical Council of India guidelines, the postgraduate seats in all medical institutes all over India have to be filled by May 31.
