Deal sensitive issues with care, cameramen told

Chief Minister inaugurates Electronic Media Cameramen Association

Bangalore: Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday inaugurated the Electronic Media Cameramen Association here.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Kumaraswamy said in this age of technology, electronic media carried information to millions of people in minutes and it made an immense impact on the public mind.

In such circumstances, it is the responsibility of the cameramen to film events in such a way that they do not evoke unfavourable sentiments in the members of the public.

The visuals beamed on television should not be the cause of disharmony in the country or create a disturbed environment. Cameramen should ensure that sensitive issues portrayed in the electronic media should be dealt with care.

In the same way, it is the duty of the electronic media to portray the wrongs happening in society, he said. The association should become a platform for the electronic media cameramen to voice their grievances and he hoped it would come to their rescue when they were faced with some danger or have a problem, Mr Kumaraswamy said.

The former Chief Minister Dharam Singh said in a democracy, all people's representatives and the schemes of the Government need publicity and in this respect, both electronic media and print media are equally important. The media plays an important role in giving valuable information to the public, he said.

S. Padmanabha Rao, President of the association, said the main aim of the association is to bring a sense of discipline among cameramen and to help them in times of crisis.

The association will conduct technical workshops and demonstrations and help members to hone their skills.
