New Garuda service

Sir, __ The commuters of Madanapalle and other surrounding municipal areas are happy to hear that APSRTC of Ranga Reddy region recently introduced Garuda bus service between Secunderabad and Madanapalle daily. However, there are apprehensions that the services may be discontinued if there is no good patronage. It is so because ticket fares may be exorbitant, unlike railway fares.

In view of this, I suggest that the RTC extend this service up to Horsley Hills so that tourists too prefer to visit this famous hill station and Garuda will become popular, becoming economically viable.

English medium in

residential schools

Sir,__It is heartening to note that the Chief Minister has issued instructions to senior officers to ensure that English medium sections are introduced in all residential schools in the State from the next academic year. It is understood that this will be done without prejudice to existing Telugu medium sections. In fact, in all Government and private schools both Telugu and English media should be made available to students. They must be asked to exercise their option.

Execution of schemes

Sir,__The report that the staff and workers of the Guntakal Municipal Engineering Department withdrew their dharna in front of the office after the authorities assured them that two months' salaries out of three months due to them would be paid in a week made for sad reading.

If payment of salaries could be arranged after the dharna, why not without the dharna? Unless salaries of employees at lower levels are paid on time, execution of welfare schemes will be hit.

Use of watermelon seed

Sir,__With the onset of summer, water melons arrive in large numbers.

They are seen stacked on pavements and street corners. Generally seeds of watermelon are wasted despite the fact that the seed is an excellent source of edible grade oil.

The oil content ranges from 34 to 36 per cent of the weight of the seed. The processing of watermelon seed and recovery of edible oil has been pioneered at the Oil Technological Research Institute of Anantapur.

Seed can also be processed for recovery of high-grade protein-rich flowers.

Double standard

Sir,__While addressing a press conference the other day, BJP leader Ch. Vidya Sagara Rao asked the Congress to answer the queries of its MLA P. Janardana Reddy on non-compliance with the Telangana Tenancy Act of 1950 (TTA) with particular reference to Sections 46 to 50 of Chapter V while "selling away" precious lands in Hyderabad to Andhra people at throwaway prices and demanded that the State Government revive the TTA 1950 and restore the lands only to Telangana people.

While demanding removal of Article 370 of the Constitution in Kashmir, the BJP is seeking revival of the TTA 1950 in Andhra Pradesh. Does this not amount to double standard?
