JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has established anti-power theft police stations in 15 districts to deal with the increasing cases of theft of electricity and tampering with the power network. These police stations will be opened in all the districts in the State in the second phase. The State Energy Secretary, Yaduvendra Mathur, inaugurating the Jaipur City police station here on Saturday, said the new police stations would be evolved as information centres to apprise the consumers of methods to save electricity besides registering the cases of power theft. The Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, Shrimat Pandey, said the police stations in Jaipur City, Jaipur Rural, Bharatpur, Dausa, Kota, Alwar and Sawai Madhopur would function for the Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam. Other police stations will have the jurisdiction of Ajmer and Jodhpur Vidyut Nigams. The authority of regular police stations to register the offences relating to power sector remains unchanged even after the establishment of new stations. The anti-power theft stations will help speed up investigations into these cases and control the rising graph of power-related crimes.
