Renovation work of Lordi dam in Rajasthan inaugurated

  • Right to manage irrigation waters would lead to empowerment of rural communities, says Minister
  • "It will also help them to plan profitable crop patterns in their farms"

JAIPUR: Farmers in seven villages in Ajmer district of Rajasthan were given the right to take independent decision by mutual consultations on the release and distribution of water from Lordi Sagar dam on Sunday. The State Government will appoint water utilisation consultative committees in the villages where canals are fed by dam water.

The Minister for Irrigation and Water Resources, Sanwarlal Jat, making the announcement while inaugurating the renovation work at Lordi dam, said the right to manage irrigation waters would lead to empowerment of rural communities and help them plan profitable crop patterns in their farms.

The renovation of the 35-year-old dam has been taken up in a big way at a cost of Rs. 1.75 crores. Mr. Jat said the dam, after its desilting and reconstruction, would store greater quantity of water and benefit villages in the Masuda panchayat samiti area. He said more check-dams would be built in the region to harvest rain water.

The Minister said the work on the Bisalpur drinking water supply scheme to bring water from Bisalpur dam in Tonk district was progressing fast and would benefit all the villages in Ajmer district within the next year and a half. Besides, more people would be engaged in the drought relief works launched in the district.

The State Government had recently sanctioned renovation of Lordi and two other dams in Ajmer district. Two canals emerging from the dam presently supply water to Zorawarpura, Bahadurpura, Jaisinghpura, Lodiyana and Daulatpura villages.
