Three held for credit card fraud

Duped international banks in Lucknow of crores of rupees

LUCKNOW: The Special Task Force of the state police today claimed to have busted a gang which duped banks to the tune of crores of rupees by using fake international credit cards and arrested three persons, including the gang leader.

One of the arrested persons Yogesh Mahajan was a resident of Preet Vihar in Delhi while the two others belonged to the state capital, STF Inspector General Jagmohan Yadav told newsmen here.

The gang members used to make the fake credit cards and draw payments from international banks, he said adding that fake photo identity cards of foreigners were used for high value transactions.

The STF sleuths recovered fake 26 credit cards different international banks besides photocopies of 34 passports of foreigners, four white blank credit cards having magnetic stripes and some swipe machines, Yadav said.

It was revealed by the culprits that blank credit cards were brought from abroad and the gang leader lived in USA, Yadav said.

The HDFC bank had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that forged credit cards were being used at a particular merchant point in the state capital, he said. Later on it was found that 22 international credit cards had been used at the machine installed at a travel agency, which was owned by one of the arrested persons, yadav said. The gang had so far duped the banks to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore, he said adding that a case had been registered and investigation was on. - PTI
