BJP signs poll pact with Janata Party

CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Party (JP) have signed an election agreement under which five Assembly constituencies have been allotted to the latter.

It was signed by C.P.Radhakrishnan and V.S. Chandralekha, presidents of the State units of the parties here on Sunday.

Mylapore, Perambur, Melur, Madurai (central) and Omalur have been allotted to the Janata Party, according to BJP leader in-charge of its State unit Bandaru Dattatreya. Talks with other parties, including the Janata Dal (United) were on and a settlement would be arrived at by Monday. A list of probable BJP candidates would also be ready.

On Tuesday, Mr.Dattatreya,along with Mr.Radhakrishnan and S.Thirunavukkarasar, chief of the election committee, will go to Delhi to submit the list to the Parliamentary Board.
