Woman found hanging

NEW DELHI: The body of a 19-year-old woman was found hanging from a hook on a temple wall at Seelampur in North-East Delhi on Sunday morning. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

According to the police, Lata's father found her hanging with her "dupatta" around 7-30 a.m. Youngest of the four daughters of temple priest Rajender Kumar, she was last seen alive around 10 p.m. on Saturday when she had gone to the temple to offer prayers.

Rajender -- who discovered the body -- told the police that Lata worked in a beauty parlour at Vishwas Nagar in East Delhi. Though circumstantial evidence indicates that Lata committed suicide, the police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter.

Woman sets

herself afire

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old woman allegedly set herself afire at her New Usmanpur residence in North-East Delhi on Sunday. She has been admitted to GTB Hospital with 100 per cent burns.

The incident occurred around 10-30 a.m. when Rehana Parveen, following an altercation with her husband Wahid Hussein, allegedly poured kerosene and set herself afire. She was rushed to GTB Hospital where she is stated to be in very critical condition. Enquiries revealed that Rehana married Wahid about two years ago. The area Sub-Divisional Magistrate has initiated an inquiry into the matter.

One drowned

New Delhi: Two people fell in a nallah in the Mayur Vihar area of East Delhi on Sunday, leading to the death of one of the persons.

The incident occurred at 4-15 pm when nine-year-old Ajay and 35-year-old Mohammad Ali fell in a Nallah in the Mayur Vihar Phase II area while crossing a pontoon bridge built over it, fire service sources said.

Seeing the two fall in the `nallah', some passers-by jumped in it to rescue them.

While Ajay was admitted in the Jeevan Anmol Hospital in Mayur Vihar in an unconscious state, Mohammed Ali died on the way.

Fire in electronic

goods godown

NEW DELHI: A fire broke out in a godown stocking electronic goods at Mori Gate in North Delhi on Sunday. However, no one was reportedly injured in the incident.

According to a fire department spokesman, the fire broke out around 11-45 a.m. At least 15 fire tenders were pressed into action and the blaze was brought under control within four hours. The local police have initiated a probe into the incident.

CBI chargesheets

JE, labourer for bribe

New Delhi: The CBI has chargesheeted an MCD Junior Engineer and a daily wage labourer on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 1.25 lakhs from a man here last year.

The chargesheet was filed in the court of Special Judge I.K. Kochhar on a complaint received by the agency's Anti-Corruption Bureau last year from one Avdesh Mittal.

According to the complaint, MCD (South Zone) JE Somesh Kumar Mittal and `Beldar' Amar Dev had allegedly demanded Rs 1.25 lakhs from the complainant as illegal gratification to allow him to construct a building in Green Park, for which the complainant had already received sanction from the civic authority.

The duo has been chargesheeted under section 120B (criminal conspiracy), IPC, and various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The case has been put up for April 12.
