HYDERABAD: A volunteer of Integrated Rural Development Services (IRDS) and her 10-year-old daughter were found murdered in their house at Indiranagar Colony in Karmanghat on Sunday morning. The police said the assailants allegedly killed Bhagyalaxmi, 28, and her daughter Sandhya by slitting their throats with a sharp-edged weapon when they were fast asleep on Saturday midnight. The incident came to light when Bhagyalaxmi's neighbour Sattemma noticed bloodstains in front of her house and alerted house owner Pushpamma. When Sandhya failed to respond to her repeated calls, Pushpamma with the help of other neighbours broke open the main door only to find them in a pool of blood. Police inquiries revealed that Bhagyalaxmi was separated from her husband Rangaiah eight years ago. She later began living with Mehboob, a labourer at the Kothapet fruit market. Police said it was also alleged that over the last three months she became close to a friend of Mehboob, who is yet to be traced.
Preliminary findings
"We suspect Mehboob's friend was staying in her house since Friday and could have gagged Bhagyalaxmi to death," Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ibrahimpatnam Division, O. Obul Reddy said. Mehboob was taken into custody while his friend is at large. "Sexual jealousy might be one of the reasons behind the incident," Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ibrahimpatnam Division, O. Obul Reddy said.
