SERVICES AFFECTED: State Bank of India employees demonstrating outside the Local Head Office in Bhopal on Monday.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday restrained the State Bank of India employees from staging dharnas or protest rallies within 500 metres of the bank's headquarters and its branches across the country.
Interim order on PIL
A Division Bench comprising Justices M.K. Sharma and Reva Khetrapal passed the interim order on a public interest litigation petition by an advocate seeking a direction to the bank employees' union not to go on strike.
Concern for public
The Bench directed the striking employees not to create obstacles in the functioning of the bank. ``We do not want general public and customers to be affected by the strike,'' the Bench observed.
Pension revision sought
On a call given by the SBI Staff Association and Officers' Association, the bank employees have gone an indefinite strike from Monday all over the country demanding, among other things, an upward revision in their pension The Bench also issued a notice to the Union Government seeking reply from it as to why the demands of the employees were not being met.
