GULBARGA (KARNATAKA): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the activities of the suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Shami Ahmed Shah, who was arrested at the Gulbarga Railway Station on March 30, returned to Gulbarga on Monday after collecting vital information in Andhra Pradesh.
Room inspected
The team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Ravikumar Naik, had taken Shah along with it. Sources in the SIT told The Hindu that the team visited different localities in Hyderabad, besides inspecting the room where Shah stayed in Zaheerabad for about a month last year. The sources said that Shah fully cooperated with the team and the information he gave in Gulbarga corroborated the facts obtained during the visit to Andhra Pradesh.
Gets details
The team has collected details of the codes and maps of vital installations that Shah had sent through e-mail to Abdul Aziz, a Pakistan-based LeT operative in charge of operations in India. Though Shah said he had stayed in Andhra Pradesh for over three months, a cross-check revealed that he had stayed there for a month and had gone to Mumbai for two months to attend to his ailing wife. The sources said a special team of the Andhra Pradesh Police, which interrogated Shah in Gulbarga, confirmed that the information given by the militant to it corroborated the other details collected so far.
Mosque frequented
The team held talks with Ibrahim Moulvi, head of the Fateh Darwaza Mosque in Hyderabad, which was frequented by Shah. It was in this mosque that Shah had allegedly distributed the pamphlet titled "Ramzan-e-Mubarak" containing inflammatory material against India. Brain mapping and polygraph test of the operative in Bangalore is likely to be delayed by a day or two as the dates for the two tests are yet to be confirmed by the Forensic Science Laboratory.
