Ranil arrives

Special Correspondent

New Delhi: The former Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, arrived here on Monday.

This is his first visit to India since he lost the November 2004 Presidential elections to Mahinda Rajapakse of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

South Block officials described the visit as part of India's efforts to build non-partisan, consensual relations with Sri Lanka's main political parties. Mr. Wickremesinghe is expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday.
