KADAPA: DRDA Project Director R. Hariprakash tendered an apology to Prajasakthi photographer P. Subbarayudu in his chambers in the presence of mediapersons on Monday for allegedly behaving rudely with him a couple of days ago. Gotur tollgate collection stopped

KADAPA: Tollgate collections near Gotur in Vallur mandal have been stopped from March 31 midnight, Superintending Engineer of Roads and Buildings J. Chandrasekhar Reddy said in a statement on Monday.

Household survey to identify BCs

KADAPA: Panchayat secretaries should undertake a household survey to identify backward class voters in gram panchayats whose voter lists were completed by March 28, District Panchayat Officer K.P. Abdul Hameed Khan said on Monday. Panchayat secretaries and extension officers, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development would be dealt with sternly if identification and certification of BC voters was not taken up or any lapses were detected, he warned in a statement. - Staff Reporter

Blood donation camp

CHITTOOR: The District Revenue Employees Association conducted blood donation camp at Collector office here on Monday. In this connection Collector S. S. Rawath said that blood donation was top most importance among all the charities.

Rs.1-lakh ex gratia

KADAPA: The Government announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh to the kin of the victims and assistance of Rs. 5,000 to each injured person in the lorry capsize incident, according to Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande. Relatives of injured patients lamented that they carried their kin on shoulders as none brought stretchers at Government Hospital. Patients were administered saline with their kin holding saline bottles for want of stands.

Takes over as Chief Postmaster-General HYDERABAD: D. Kailasa Prasad, earlier Postmaster-General, Hyderabad Region on Monday took over as Principal Chief Postmaster-General, Andhra Pradesh Circle. Meanwhile, K. Ramachandran assumed office of the Postmaster General of Southern Region here on Monday. - Special Correspondent

Maoists surrender

ANANTAPUR: Four Maoist militants and a Congress councillor of Dharmavaram Municipal Council K. Sudhakar Reddy surrendered before Officer on Special Duty G. Vijaykumar here on Monday. The OSD said that the Congress councillor had supplied a revolver to the commander of Ramagiri dalam Mallikarjuna, following threatening calls from Maoists. Staff Reporter

Maoist granted bail

KHAMMAM: Narayan Sanyal, Politburo member of the CPI (Maoist) was granted bail by the first Class Judicial Magistrate Court at Bhadrachalam on Monday. The 68-year-old naxalite leader was one of the members of the CPI (Maoist) politburo and its central committee and chief of its central-eastern regional bureau monitoring the political affairs in two states of Orissa and Chhatisgarh. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The CPI (ML) State Committee has demanded a judicial enquiry by a sitting High Court judge into Sunday's encounter killing of five Maoists in Venkatapuram mandal of Khammam district. - Special Correspondent

Delta canals closure

Kakinada: Godavari delta canals in the district will be closed from April 16 for annual maintenance, according to K. Seetharamaswamy, Executive Engineer Godavari eastern wing, Dowlesweram. He has advised all the concerned to fill up all drinking water tanks before April 15. - Correspondent

Ganja seized

ADILABAD: The Two Town police seized a Maruti car laden with contraband ganja estimated to be worth Rs. 25 lakhs on Monday. Two Town SI Sambaiah said the police received a tip off that a Maruti 800 car laden with the banned ganja was headed up North and was to pass Adilabad town at about 10 a.m. The driver of the car fled the scene leaving the car laden with three quintals of ganja after the police closed in on him. - Staff Reporter

Review of cases

HYDERABAD: Additional Secretary, Revenue, J. Sudharani and Deputy Secretary, Vigilance, Veeresham on Monday reviewed pendency and disposal of Vigilance cases against officials and staff of Endowments Department. They visited the office of the Endowments Commissioner and interacted with officials for over three hours. The review comes in the wake of alleged corruption by highly placed officials in the sale of temple lands . - Special Correspondent

Lorry capsize toll up

KADAPA: Death toll in the lorry capsize at Polathala in Pendlimarry mandal rose to nine with Vasanthapuri Chennaiah succumbing to injuries in Kadapa Government hospital last night. Of the 60 injured, three critically injured ones were referred to Tirupati. - Staff Reporter

Four hurt in accident

TIRUMALA: Four persons of a family including a child Vaishnavi (4) sustained fractures when a taxi in which they were travelling suddenly developed a technical snag and hit the railing on the first ghat road leading to Tirupati about 14 km from here on Monday. Staff Reporter
