DEHRA DUN: The Uttaranchal Governor, Sudershan Aggarwal, has returned the Uttaranchal (The Uttar Pradesh State Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Act, 1971 (Amendment) Bill, 2006, passed by the Vidhan Sabha on March 27. Announcing this in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday, the Speaker, Yashpal Arya, said that the Governor had sought certain clarifications from the Government. The Governor has asked how point No. 27 of the Bill sought to declare all the societies, boards or corporations under the various Ministries and departments as offices of no profit without specifically naming them. Later talking to reporters, Parliamentary Affairs and PWD Minister Indira Hirdeyesh said that there was no constitutional crisis and the Bill would be reintroduced in the Assembly after necessary consultations. Welcoming the Governor's decision, former Speaker and BJP MLA Prakash Pant said that his party still sought suspension of the 18 Congress MLAs enjoying offices of profit.
