New OPD block for Chandigarh hospital

Administrator lays the foundation stone

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Governor and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, S. F. Rodrigues, on Monday laid the foundation stone for a new multi-storeyed OPD block at the General Hospital in Sector 16 here.

This new block will be integrated with the existing facilities in the hospital. It will have five storeys for various Out Patient Departments, including Central Registration, Dental, Physiotherapy, Orthopaedics, Surgery, Minor Operation Theatre, Medicine, Paediatrics, E.N.T., Eye, Skin and Psychiatry. It will also house a library, conference hall, seminar room, 25-bed centre and two operation theatres.

Gen. Rodrigues, while going round the renovated building of the existing hospital, visited the emergency wards and inquired about the well-being of the patients and the services being provided by the hospital authorities. He also interacted with the doctors attending the patients and said that the medical professionals should improve the Healthcare Delivery Services so that these were more responsive to the needs of society.

Health survey

Referring to a health survey of school children initiated by the Chandigarh Administration in various schools of the Union Territory, he impressed upon the health authorities the need to evolve a joint strategy with the Education Department and emphasised the need for collaborative efforts by medical professionals, educationists,

Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and the society at large to pay special attention towards the health of children by providing them a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
