HYDERABAD: Robbers made off with gold ornaments worth Rs. 60 lakhs from a jewellery shop here at Abids after cutting open the shop's rear-side shutter using metal sheet cutters. The burglary, committed with clockwork precision at the city's main commercial centre in front of Abids police station, came to light when owners of Tara Pearls Jewellers opened the shop on Monday. The offenders cut the iron grill of the rear shutter with a hacksaw blade. Lifting the shutter could have set off the security alarm, so they made a vast rectangular hole on the shutter using metal sheet cutters. The offenders also managed to open another metal door by cutting off the steel latch, Central Zone DCP Srinivasulu said. They opened one locker and emptied three racks, but could not open two chests inside. They left pearls and silver ornaments untouched. The secret camera in the shop was switched off. They found eight hacksaw blades, four crowbars, pliers and two screwdrivers in the bushes in the open backyard. "The left over chapathis and empty food packets lying with the tools suggested they leisurely moved around in the compound," the DCP explained.
