Staff Reporter

Government will develop 100 acres of land to house private and government hospitals

  • Yeshasvini scheme to be amended to cover angioplasty
  • Permission sought to lease land of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology
  • KSRTC, BMTC donate Rs. 1 crore to hospital fund

BANGALORE: The Government is planning to set up a health park on the lines of the Information Technology Park shortly in Bangalore city, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy announced on Monday.

He said the Government is looking to develop 100 acres of land, within the city or with easy access to it, for a health park that will have government and private hospitals. The health care centres in the park will offer facilities of international standards, he added at the inauguration of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology's "nuclear cardiology wing".

Mr. Kumaraswamy said with international information technology and biotechnology companies setting up operations in the State, there is a need to ensure that facilities are world class and at the same time ensure that the poor have access to good medical facilities. The health park, he said, will serve this purpose.

    Yeshasvini scheme

The Chief Minister said the Yeshasvini scheme will be amended to cover angioplasty. At present, bypass surgeries are covered under the scheme.

Earlier, C.N. Manjunath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, requested the Government to amend the scheme to include angioplasty. He said often bypass surgeries were done even in cases when an angioplasty would have sufficed because it was covered by the scheme. "We want to avoid this," he said.

    Land lease

Dr. Manjunath also requested the Government for permission to lease some of the unused land belonging to the hospital for commercial purposes. He said of the 13.5 acres of land on which the hospital is located, six acres of land is unutilised.

Dr. Manjunath sought permission to lease out two acres of land to other government institutions.

The Chief Minister told the hospital authorities that if they plan to lease out the land they should ensure that at the end of the lease the hospital can use the building for its own purposes.

    Donation

The Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) donated Rs. 1 crore to the poor patient fund at the hospital.

    D. Chinnaiah, founder director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology was felicitated by the Chief Minister.
