Drive planned in association with Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad

  • Public told to use centralised prepaid parking system
  • Smart cards to be made available at all important business establishments
  • HUDA and Buddha Purnima project authorities agree to cooperate with MCH

HYDERABAD : After getting tough with traffic violators in twin cities, the traffic police, in association with the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, has decided to `view seriously' the parking of vehicles at unauthorised places and haphazardly and penalise it heavily.

At a joint meeting convened by both departments with Government and private parking contractors here on Monday, Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) A.K. Khan said that the parking authorities concerned would take digital photographs of vehicles violating parking norms and sent it to the traffic police for necessary action.

    More parking slots

MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju said that in addition to the existing 104 parking places under his jurisdiction, 50 more such slots were identified and appealed to people to make use of the recently- introduced centralised prepaid parking system and intelligent cards.

Mobile reading devices were already given to all major parking slots and over 10,000 prepaid smart cards were sold thus far. Smart cards would be made available at all important business establishments for the convenience of the commuting public.

    Smart cards

Once the parking system with smart cards was put in place, the same infrastructure can be utilised for payment of property tax, trade licences and also for payment of fines levied by the traffic police, he pointed out.

Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and Buddha Purnima project authorities agreed to cooperate with the MCH in solving the parking woes in the city and decided to accept smart cards issued by the MCH. It showed interest in buying the mobile reading devices.

Additional Commissioner (estates) Ravi Babu said a meeting would be convened with private parking contractors of RTC, Railways, Airports and others to agree and sign a memorandum of understanding for acceptance and usage of the smart card.
