Girl commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old girl who recently appeared for her Class X Board examinations allegedly hanged herself at her Badli Village residence in North-West Delhi on Tuesday. According to the police, Reena was found hanging from the bathroom shower with her "chunni". Enquiries revealed that she had been suffering from depression for the past few days as she was not happy with her performance in the science paper.

Held for betting racket

NEW DELHI: A 33-year-old man was arrested at Rajender Nagar in Central Delhi over the weekend for allegedly running a betting racket. When the police raided his residence, Dinesh Kumar Jaidka was allegedly accepting stake money on the second one-day international cricket between India and England at Faridabad.

`Sharpshooter' held

NEW DELHI: An alleged sharpshooter of the Krishan Pehalwan gang was arrested at Moti Nagar in West Delhi on Sunday. A pistol and live cartridges were recovered from his possession. The accused, Sanjay Tyagi is allegedly involved in more than 14 cases of murder, attempt-to-murder, kidnapping for ransom and murderous assault on policemen.

Alleged criminals arrested

NEW DELHI: Three alleged inter-State criminals were arrested by the Crime Branch at Ambedkar Nagar in South Delhi this past weekend. A country-made firearm was recovered from their possession. Acting on a tip-off that dreaded criminal Sharafat would come to Ambedkar Nagar to meet his accomplices on Saturday, the Crime Branch sleuths laid a trap and arrested him along with Saravan and Akil. The police said the accused were wanted in connection with a dacoity in a Lucknow-based television showroom and another one in which they took away motor-parts worth Rs. 50 lakhs in Faridabad. Also, they allegedly stole television parts worth Rs. 40 lakhs twice in Noida.

Auto-lifters nabbed

NEW DELHI: Three alleged auto-lifters have been arrested by the Crime Branch from different parts of the Capital. Kapil and Ram were arrested at Rohini in North-West Delhi on March 31. At their instance, the police recovered four stolen motorcycles and a scooter. In another case, the Crime Branch arrested Narender Singh at Civil Lines on March 24. At his instance, the police recovered two stolen cars. Narender is allegedly into car-theft for the past three years.

No breakthrough in shooting cases

NEW DELHI: The police have not made any breakthrough in the case relating to attacks on two businessmen at Civil Lines and Bara Hindu Rao in North Delhi this past Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sunil Garg on Monday said efforts were being made to identify and trace the culprits in both cases. "We are working on all possible angles," he said.

It is learnt that the blue Maruti car used by the criminals, who shot at and injured Nitin Sharma (27), was a stolen one. The assailants shot at Nitin twice and fled from the scene. Nitin is stated to be in stable condition. In another case, Devender Kumar Jain was shot at outside his house at Fayaz Ganj in Bara Hindu Rao. He has been discharged after treatment at Apollo Hospital. On the basis of the descriptions provided by him, the police are trying to establish the identities of the assailants.
