This Day That Age
President Ho Chi-minh of North Vietnam has called on his people to continue the peaceful struggle for reunification of North and South Vietnam. He was speaking at a rally in Hanoi on April 3 where more than 150,000 people gathered to welcome Mr. Mikoyan, Soviet First Deputy Premier. "So long as our country is not yet unified, all our compatriots must resolutely struggle so as to unify the country to build a peaceful, unified, independent democratic, prosperous and strong Vietnam," declared President Ho. He also repeated his demand for free general elections in North and South Vietnam to unify the country under the terms of the 1954 Geneva agreements which ended the Indo-China war. South Vietnam has so far refused to hold talks with the North to prepare for the elections because she maintains that she was not a party to the Geneva agreements and they are not binding on her.
