Coimbatore: As a part of its project to promote welfare of women and children, the Rotary Club, Metropolis has undertaken to provide the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the Gynaecology and Obstetrics ward.
Health care
The unit was inaugurated by the District governor, (RI district 3200), K.S. Pillai. According to V Rajkumar, president, Rotary Club Metropolis, the CMCH provides health care to thousands of patients who come from the underprivileged segment of society. Women and children form a large chunk of that number. The ICU has already been equipped with six state-of-the-art beds for patients and air conditioners and equipment like patient monitors, a foetal monitor, baby warmers, pulse oxymeters, infusion pumps, electrical suction and a defibrillator will be installed soon.
Service
Rotary, Metropolis has put in US $ 6000. Rotary Club of Pontllanfraith, Wales, has put in another US $ 6000 and the Rotary International Foundation will match that amount with US $ 12000, says Rajkumar. The ICU will provide the same kind of service that top-of-the line hospitals provide for their patients.
