ERODE: Erode district administration has geared up the official machinery and issued orders that cases be booked against election code violators. Officials have registered 102 cases against political parties in the Erode Assembly constituency and 10 cases in the Kangeyam constituency for defacing walls. Meanwhile, political parties themselves have started cleaning the walls in public places defaced by them. District Collector D. Karthikeyan said the officials have been asked to register cases against political parties, which are defacing the public places by writing graffiti. The Collector has also directed municipal commissioners to issue notices to parties, which are defacing the walls and has instructed them to collect fees from the parties for cleaning the walls. It will be included in the particular political party candidate's expenses. Karthikeyan on Tuesday held discussions with the District Revenue Officer V. Santha, Personal Assistant (Election) Selvaraj and other officials on poll arrangements, EVM use and counting operations. AIADMK candidates are now busy in their respective constituencies in forming booth committees. DMK in many places in the district has not yet started electioneering. Vijaya Kanth's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam volunteers have started electioneering from Monday and in Gobichettipalayam too. AIADMK volunteers after performing special pooja in temples started their election work.
Poll boycott threat
Angry over the Election Commission's order banning graffitti on walls in municipal areas, Painters Association has decided to boycott the Assembly election. Similarly, villagers of Vadugapatty in Modakurichi constituency on Tuesday sent a detailed letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, New Delhi, stating that about 5,000 voters of the area have decided to boycott the election. They said more than 300 families were residing in Gnnapuram, Periyarnagar, Sadayapuram, Elavanatham, Koothampoondi and Vinobagram. They said the approach road to Erode-Arachalure main road was in a damaged condition. If steps were not taken to repair the road they would boycott the election.
