GUNTUR: City Diabetes Federation (CDF), Guntur branch will conduct a day's workshop under Continuing Medical Education programme on `Diabetic Foot Ulcer Management' for doctors on April 9, said CDF president C. Padmavathi Devi. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, she said that every year more than 40,000 diabetic patients undergo leg amputations in India, which had a diabetic population of 30 million. About 85 per cent of these amputations could be prevented by simple and cost-effective diabetes foot care, she said. Well-known diabetic foot surgeon and Diabetic Foot Society of India president, Arun Bal would speak on diabetic-foot salvage surgery and the role of growth factors in treating diabetes in two sessions. Diabetic foot society of India secretary, Sanjeev K. Kelkar, Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kochi diabetic surgeons Ajit Varma and Sudheendran, would be the resource persons in the programme, said Dr. Parmavathi Devi. The programme would be held from 8.30 a.m. at the GMCANA auditorium at Guntur Medical College. There will be case presentations and surgical video. The best case papers will win cash awards. A quiz competition would be conducted and the winners would be given glucometers, said CDF vice-president E. Krishna Murthy. CDF invited doctors and surgeons from across the State to participate in this workshop to understand the latest in the discipline.
