Commemorating the first anniversary of the demise of John Paul II, Apostolic Nunciature and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in cooperation with Habitat Film Centre and Delhi Malayali Film Society will screen the film "John Paul II'' at the Stein Auditorium of Indian Habitat Centre in the Capital this Wednesday. "John Paul II'', directed by John Kent Harrison, is a three-hour-twenty-minute feature film based on the remarkable life of Pope John Paul II. Actor Cary Elwes portrays John Paul II in his adult years prior to being elected Pope on October 16, 1978, while Jon Voight portrays him during his extraordinary 26-year reign that ended with his death on April 2, 2005. "The film has an international flavour with several countries contributing in its making -- in terms of its actors from various countries and diverse shooting sites. The film begins with flashbacks of the young Pope whose faith and values were initially fostered by his parents and moves on to his training in an underground seminary run by the Archbishop Sapieha,'' said the Second Scretary of Apostolic Nunciature, Msgr. Tomasz Grysa, about the film. "The film brings to focus the active papal years of John Paul II as he sought to spread the message of peace across the world. It is aimed at giving the audience a glimpse into the challenging and inspiring life of Pope John Paul II as he lived with faith, peace and courage. Pope John Paul II will certainly go down in history as one of the greatest Popes of our times.'' -- Bindu Shajan Perappadan
