Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: An informed source in the Pondicherry unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) expressed dismay over lack of communication from the Congress on the current trend or factors responsible for the delay in reaching a decision on sharing of seats among the constituents of the Democratic Progressive Alliance in the context of Assembly polls here. When contacted by The Hindu on Tuesday the source said that although the party had sought allocation of five seats in the earlier stages, there was indication subsequently that it would be earmarked two segments and after formation of the government by DPA one of the three nominated legislators (permissible for Pondicherry Assembly under the Act) could also be earmarked to it. But whatever be the final decision there was lack of formal communication about the current trend in the process of negotiations. The source said that the CPI party men had however been going ahead with canvassing support of the voters in the segment (s) that were expected to be available to the party and also for the constituents of the DPA as a whole (Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and a few other parties) in other segments also. In the meanwhile the anxious expectation on the part of the Congress about the outcome of the ongoing talks between the party delegation and the high command in Delhi also continued unabated. (
