Notifications to set the poll process in motion in these two regions would be issued on Wednesday, according to a release from the Department of Elections. (Mahe is an enclave of Pondicherry in Kerala, while Yanam an enclave in Andhra Pradesh). The last date for making nominations is April 12 (for both Mahe and Yanam regions). But the scrutiny of nominations relating to two constituencies (Mahe and Palloor) in Mahe region has been scheduled for April 15 and the scrutiny of nominations for Yanam constituency will be taken up on April 13. Similarly last date for withdrawal of candidatures relating to Mahe region is April 17, while it is April 15 for Yanam. The dates for scrutiny of nominations and also for withdrawal of nominations for Mahe region were revised in view of the Vishu festival in the region falling on April 13 and 14. Presently the Congress is holding both the Mahe and Palloor constituencies while an independent member represents Yanam in the Territorial Assembly. Pondicherry and Karaikal regions (having 21 and 6 constituencies respectively) would have the polls in the second phase on May 8.
