Sanjeev shines
Sanjeev Rana's 51-run knock ensured Shalimar Club a five-wicket win and also a place in the quarterfinals of the 29th all-India Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial cricket tournament at the Nehru Stadium in Ghaziabad in Delhi. The scores: Onida Club 130 in 29.3 overs (Praveen Gupta 50, Lalit Anand five for 32) lost to Shalimar Club 134 for five in 24.4 overs (Sanjeev Rana 51).
Varun shines
Varun Chakravarti (86) set the tone before Digvijay Singh (five for 20) completed the task as Turf Academy defeated MCC, England, by 113 runs in the league match of the Bishnoi International Youth Cup cricket tournament at the Teri Oval. The scores: Turf Academy 253 in 34.6 overs (Varun Chakravarti 86, Akash Mittal 34) bt MCC, England 140 in 28 overs (Adnam Memon 30, Aquib Hussain 26, Digvijay Singh five for 20).
Easy for Friends Club
Jag Singh's knock of 45 helped Friends Club beat L.B. Shastri Coaching Centre by four wickets in a Super Elite group II match in the DDCA cricket league championship. The scores: Super Elite II: L.B. Shastri CC 184 for nine in 31.5 overs (Navneet Singh 61, Sobers Joban 54) lost to Friends Club 185 for six in 32.1 overs (Jag Singh 45). Elite I: Hind Club 145 in 34.4 overs lost to Kranti Star 147 for nine in 31.3 overs. Rajeev scalps six
Left-arm spinner Rajeev Rathore snared six wickets to help Collage Group defend its modest total and beat Opto Group by seven runs and make it to the quarterfinals of the all-India Davinder Singh Memorial cricket tournament at the Harbaksh Stadium in Delhi. The scores: Collage Group 191 in 42.1 overs bt Opto Group 184 in 44.1 overs (Yogesh Sharma 43, Rajeev Rathore six for 58).
Indians win a silver and two bronze medals
Indian judokas returned with one silver and two bronze medals from the 22nd Tunis international judo tournament that ended in Tunisia on Sunday. Nirupama Devi won the silver medal in 57kg category while Bhupinder Singh (66kg) and Jina Devi (70kg) settled for the bronze medals. Twenty-one countries participated in the tournament, which had Grade `A' rating of the International Judo Federation.
