Armaan — changing gears

Chennai: Armaan Ebrahim will soon be on the starting blocks in one of the toughest racing championships in the world — Formula Renault-UK circuit. The 16-year-old fast rising local lad is racing for the Position 1 team which finished first in the Graduate Cup and second overall last year.

Ian Barnwell, the CEO of Position 1 Racing, has gone out of the way to ensure Armaan as one of the two drivers in the team. Andy Welch, one of the most respected engineers in the British Formula Ford and Formula Renault in UK and U.S. will be Armaan's chief engineer.

Armaan did eight official tests in different circuits in the UK with the team to become familiar with the new courses. He also has to adjust to the 200 BHP Formula Renault as against the 550 BHP A1 GP that he drove last year.

Armaan, who is the brand ambassador for JK Tyres, has also two other sponsors — Amaron and Speed Brand of BPCL. He was in the city recently for a modelling assignment and was honoured with the Rotary Youth Merit Award by the Rotary Club of Madras (Temple City).

His first race is scheduled for April 9.
