Tiruvarur: Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said a Cauvery Delta Authority (Cauvery Padugai Anaiyam) with "full powers" should be created for effective implementation of the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, which would be given soon. During election campaign at Tiruvarur, Ms.Jayalalithaa said her Government had sent a proposal to the Tribunal for forming such an authority. It should have powers to open the dam in Karnataka and release water if the Karnataka Government refused to release Tamil Nadu's due share. She said her Government had been fighting for establishing Tamil Nadu's right to Cauvery water and even moved the Supreme Court. The Chief Minister said she came to Tiruvarur many times in the past and sought their votes for alliance candidates. Only this time she had come to seek the support for the AIADMK candidate. Hence the people should show their overwhelming support. Later she told reporters that response to her campaign everywhere was overwhelming. About the DMK's promise to provide free colour television sets, she said it was not practicable. "Even if they give TV sets for those who have ration cards, the cost will come to Rs.15,000 crore. Where is the money?" She later addressed meetings at Kachanam, Thiruthuraipoondi, Kariyapattinam, Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district and Madukkur, Pattukottai and Orathanadu in Thanjavur district.
