Seven students injured in accident

Thrissur: Seven students of Vidya Engineering College, Kaiparambu, were injured when the jeep they were travelling in collided with a private bus at Puzhakkal here on Monday. The injured were Arun Shanmugh, Mujeeb, Renjith, Bijesh, Vivek, Givorth Joseph and Saneeb. The condition of two of them was reported to be serious, said the Peramangalam police. — Staff Reporter

Sindhu Joy granted bail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Judicial Magistrate on Tuesday granted bail to Sindhu Joy, State president of the Students Federation of India and LDF candidate at Puthuppally, in connection with a case registered by the Museum police for conducting a march in front of the DPI office in March. Ms Joy who was in judicial custody since Saturday, appeared before the court around 11 a.m. after a `production warrant' was issued by the court based on a report filed by the Museum police on Monday demanding a `formal arrest' of the student leader. Following the bail, Ms. Joy was released from jail. - Staff Reporter

Opposition Leader writes to WTO chief

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan has said that the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Pascal Lamy had chosen a wrong time to visit India. In a letter faxed to the WTO chief on Tuesday, Mr. Achuthanandan said Mr. Lamy would not get an opportunity to interact with the representatives of all sections affected by the WTO regime in the country during his visit on April 5 and 6 since five States were going to the polls. Mr. Achuthanandan regretted that Mr. Pascal would be interacting only with the Union Government and certain selected organisations. - Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Station has bagged two of the national-level first prizes of the All India Radio for 2005. The winners are N.M. Babu, who scripted and directed the documentary (general category) titled "Nilavilikalude tharattu," and T. Waheeda, who scripted and directed the documentary (special category) titled "Jaladarpanam." - Special Correspondent

Nod for ayurveda college in Kozhikode

THRISSUR: The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) has given sanction to the Kunjitharuvai Memorial Charitable Trust, based at Manassery, in Kozhikode district to set up an ayurveda college in the cooperative sector. In a press release issued here on Tuesday, council member D. Ramanathan said the CCIM has given recognition for the BAMS course to be conducted by the trust from 2006-'07. Dr. Ramanathan said the council has given sanction for 50 seats in the proposed ayurveda college. — Staff Reporter

Ayurveda drugs controller felicitated

THRISSUR: A reception was accorded here to Jacob M. Titus, the first Ayurveda Drugs Controller in India, by the Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India (AMMOI).

Lonappan Nambadan, MP, inaugurated the meeting. In his speech, Dr. Titus said that it would take some time for him to become fully operational as several problems were yet to be overcome. Ashtavaidyan Vaidyamatom Cheriya Narayanan Namboodirippad, ayurveda expert, P.M. Warrier and AMMOI general secretary D. Ramanathan were among those who spoke on the occasion. — Staff Reporter
