Staff Reporter

Claims overall progress during UDF rule

PATHANAMTHITTA: Revenue Minister K.M. Mani on Tuesday called upon voters to elect the United Democratic Front (UDF) to power to check the anti-development agenda of the CPI(M) and its allies.

Mr. Mani was delivering the keynote address at an election convention of the SERIFED chairman Victor T. Thomas, the UDF candidate in Thiruvalla.

Mr Mani claimed that the UDF Government had brought in investment of Rs.40,000 crores to the State during the past five years.

If voted to power, the UDF would initiate development projects costing at Rs 1,00,000 crores in the next five years, he said.

He said the UDF Government had taken measures to ensure social security to all.

Mr. Mani said the rubber price during the previous LDF rule was Rs.21 a kg.

This had increased to Rs.80 during the last five years.

The situation in the agriculture sector too had improved considerably during the period, he added.

The Minister said the UDF Government had also facilitated supply of rice at the subsidised price of Rs.3 a kg to families in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

Inaugurating the election convention, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the UDF was seeking votes for the achievements of the UDF Government during the last five years.

Rural Development Minister C.F. Thomas, P.J. Kurien, MP, Elizabeth Mammen Mathai, MLA, DCC vice-president Satheesh Kochuparmpil, Saramma Jacob, Indian Union Muslim League district president K.E. Abdul Rahman and M.V.G. Namboodiri also spoke.
