NALGONDA: A group of irate citizens on Tuesday burnt down a thatched hut and destroyed furniture belonging to the Country Club in Miryalaguda in protest against the alleged role of its organiser G.Venkateswarlu alias GVT in the death of a 26-year-old woman, Sukrutha, of Eedulagudem. Led by the BJP and the Human Rights Forum, some 75 persons, including women, attacked the controversial club in the afternoon. They broke open the main gate lock and went berserk, sources alleged. In an attempt to clear the air and defuse tension in the town, Divisional Superintendent of Police M.Laxminarayana called for an all-party meeting in his office in the evening. The official made it clear to them that police did not want to shield GVT, who according to the protestors, had been dropping the names of important ruling party leaders hailing from Nalgonda district. Meanwhile, in-charge SP K.Krishna Swamy said that doctors, who had conducted postmortem, reserved their opinion. "They are unable to decide the cause of her death. Some samples have been sent to Hyderabad for chemical analysis," he maintained.
