CHENNAI: A sewage lorry knocked down an eight-year-old girl and her aunt at Nesappakkam in K.K. Nagar on Tuesday evening. Police said A. Selvi (19), a resident of Erikkarai Street in Nesappakkam, was riding a bicycle with her niece S. Divya (8) on the pillion. The lorry hit them from behind around 5.30 p.m, when they were about half a km from their home. Both died on the spot. The police caught the driver when he tried to escape. The Pondy Bazaar Traffic Investigation police are investigating.
Youth dies
In another accident, an 18-year-old died after falling from a bus on Anna Salai near Saidapet on Monday. Police said Senthil was travelling in 19 G (Broadway-Kovalam). When the bus neared the junction of CIT Nagar 3rd Street and Anna Salai, Senthil fell down when he tried to alight. He died on the spot.
